Objective

SAPOL required a high-impact police recruitment video to modernise their outreach and inspire the next wave of recruits. The goal was to reflect the dual identity of police officers inside and outside the uniform, through emotionally engaging visuals and storytelling.

Our brief was clear: create a bold, cinematic campaign that feels authentic, motivating, and future-focused. This involved aligning with Nation’s vision and elevating it with our technical and creative execution.

Problems

The shoot presented two major challenges:

  • Helicopter Shot Limitations: Due to flight restrictions, we couldn’t shoot the planned low-altitude helicopter sequence. Our team solved this by capturing alternate B-roll and compositing the helicopter with advanced VFX.
  • Snorri Cam Logistics: While the Snorri Cam delivered dramatic and immersive footage, it required careful planning. We designed the sequences around the talent’s physical limits and rig endurance to maintain both safety and performance.
Process

From the outset, Stepney Studios worked closely with Nation to ensure the project vision was achievable within the production scope.

  • We held in-depth pre-production planning sessions
  • Pre-rigged snorri cam setups for maximum shoot efficiency
  • Designed each shot to amplify emotion and story cohesion
  • Used cinematic transitions and camera movement to reinforce the theme of mirrored identity

In post-production, our editors handled VFX, colour grading, rig removal, and seamless compositing to finalise a clean and powerful police recruitment video.

Outcomes

The campaign has resonated strongly across South Australia. More than just a recruitment ad, it’s a cinematic narrative that reframes public perception  and, a successful second instalment in the You Belong In Blue campaign, expanding upon the visual language identified in the first campaign.
