Capture the Soapy Bore Crows Grand Final in Utopia as a mini documentary that celebrates community, while highlighting how Urapuntja Health Clinic, helps keep families strong, healthy and connected through sport.
There were a few key challenges to solve before cameras rolled:
Stepney Studios approached this project as a people first documentary.
In pre production we worked with Urapuntja Health Clinic to understand the story behind the Soapy Bore Crows, the role of the clinic in community life and the key voices to follow across game day. Rather than scripting heavily, we mapped a loose story spine that left room for real moments to unfold.
On Country in Utopia, a lean Stepney crew embedded with the team and community for Grand Final day. We followed the Soapy Bore Crows through warm ups, team talks, the match and post game, capturing interviews and observational scenes with players, clinic staff, families and supporters. The focus stayed on genuine interactions, small details and the feeling of being there, not staged set pieces.

The final mini documentary gives Urapuntja Health Clinic a powerful, authentic story they can share with community, partners and stakeholders, showing why supporting clinics like Urapuntja keeps Country strong.
The ultimate goal of Stepney Studios has always been to tell meaningful stories and this year in particular we have filled the cup to the brim with that purpose. Recently we went out on country (to Utopia) to capture the Grand Final of the Soapy Bore Crows Football Team. What we witnessed was the importance of supporting organisations like the Urapuntja Health Clinic. This clinic in particular goes above and beyond to keep communities strong and thriving.
