Art at Stepney Studios
At Stepney Studios, creativity doesn’t stop at the camera. Our Kent Town space is also home to Pwerle Gallery artworks, bringing cultural storytelling and visual depth into our studio. Hosting our first event in June was a big task.
One of the most important steps was preparing our walls to feel alive and welcoming.
The Beginning: Hari’s Mural

We started with a large mural in the driveway, painted by our neighbour and friend Hari. The flowing shapes and movement reflect the pulse of a creative studio in Adelaide. As a result, the artwork became the starting point for the Stepney Studios art journey.
Welcoming Pwerle Gallery
Soon after, we were honoured to collaborate with Adelaide artist Jade Akamarre (Jade Torres). She is the director of Pwerle Gallery and helped us display two works that now live in our studio.
Each piece brings its own story and cultural weight, offering visitors a glimpse into something far greater than production alone.
Charmaine Pwerle ‘0306’

Charmaine Pwerle ‘0306’: This piece carries ceremonial body paint designs used by women in preparation for ceremony. The motifs symbolise connections to Dreaming and reflect the strength of women across generations. Circular forms speak of ceremonial sites and women moving across Country, a story with deep cultural and spiritual meaning.
Jade Akamarre ‘PG30177’

Jade Akamarre ‘PG30177’: Built on ancestral tracklines and pathways, Jade layers imagery of renewal, wildflowers, and Country breathing after rain or fire. The result is work that protects what lies beneath, while celebrating life and growth above.

Today, these paintings are more than artwork on our walls. They are cultural stories that greet everyone who steps through our entryway, and that sit quietly in our podcasting room as part of the conversations captured there.
At Stepney Studios, we create video for all kinds of clients, from television commercials to corporate campaigns and everything in between. But these artworks remind us that our walls also hold stories far older and greater than our own.
By displaying works from Pwerle Gallery, we are proud to share a glimpse of the artists’ cultural legacy. Their presence adds history, connection, and cultural depth. As a result, our Kent Town space feels less like a studio and more like a place where creativity and community come together.
