OUR NIGHT AT THE AADC AWARDS
Our lead editor, Brody, was a finalist at the 49th Annual AADC Awards for editing Flinders University’s They Say, We Say, the campaign we produced with KWP+Partners. Cooper, Thomas, Alex, Cordell and Brody all went along to back the nomination. It’s our third time at the awards as a team, and the second time someone from Stepney has had work named a finalist. It was no easy feat.
Behind the nomination were countless hours inside the footage: four shoot days, 15+ locations, 20+ Flinders students and 30+ scenes. It came off two units plus a lo-fi kit of camcorders and stills, some operated by professionals and others by cast and crew. All of it had to be sifted through before a story could be built, one that still held the overall vision of the campaign.
Keeping that vision intact meant working through agency and client meetings at every stage. The edit leaned on the relationship KWP+Partners had built with Flinders, and that trust made room for creative calls that were risky but ultimately paid off. It all had to work at every length too: a 60″ master, a 30″, four 15″ variants and a 6″ bumper.
Then there’s the part only the editor can explain: matching quick cuts, and matching the visual rhythm to the audio rhythm, all built to a custom track made specifically for this campaign. That’s the craft behind video production, and it’s what Brody brings to every edit.
The annual awards run by the Adelaide Advertising and Design Club, recognising the best advertising and design work made in South Australia across Advertising, Design, Craft, For Good and Student categories.
The campaign was created by KWP+Partners, with media by Atomic 212°. Stepney Studios produced the campaign, and our lead editor, Brody, edited it.
