The AMIC Specialisation Program has supported Aboriginal maternal and infant care across South Australia for two decades. AHCSA commissioned Stepney Studios to bring that story to screen in a suite of content built for health professionals, future trainees, and community.

01 – Challenge

Turning twenty years of story into one film

The real challenge was condensing twenty years of the AMIC program into a single film that captures why it matters. That meant asking the right questions, drawing out the story, so the film reflected the program’s real impact rather than a surface-level account.

02 – Approach

A film built around trust, culture, and community

AHCSA led the narrative, developed with the AMIC committee. Stepney Studios provided creative direction, production, and post-production across multiple SA locations. Interviews were built around trust, giving practitioners room to speak in their own words. The result centres on what the program restores: cultural and spiritual continuity in birthing, and community that keeps mothers engaged with care.

03 – Deliverables

A documentary and a full suite of platform cutdowns

The primary deliverable is Aboriginal Birthing in Aboriginal Hands, a 40-minute film. Alongside it, Stepney Studios produced a suite of cutdowns: trailers for social and web, a recruitment piece, a benefits video, individual practitioner stories, and pieces on AMIC’s history, vision, and patient journey.
