39 TRAILERS, ONE STORY.

Client – Adelaide Film Festival

Adelaide Film Festival handed us 39 trailers and a custom track by Matt Mackenzie-Smith. We cut them into one 2026 festival trailer, delivered it in nine versions, and watched it premiere at the AFF Program Launch Night.

01 – Challenge

Turn finished trailers into one story, cut to a custom track.

Adelaide Film Festival needed a trailer that captured the energy, excitement and (most importantly) variety of films for their 2026 program.

02 – Approach

39 films linked through shared moments.

Lead editor Brody King combed all 39 trailers for moments that mirror or resemble each other, then built montages around them: eyes from film after film, hands being held, radios clicking on. Flicking fast through these shared moments ties separate stories into one. Brody and Matt worked back and forth, tweaking the edit and the track until picture and music locked together.

03 – Deliverables

Nine assets: three lengths, each in three aspect ratios.

A 60-second main trailer, plus 30-second and 15-second cutdowns, each delivered in 16:9, 9:16 and square. Matt supplied matching cutdowns of the track, and Brody recut each version to land on them, so every length holds the same rhythm in less time.

04 – Outcomes

Approved, then premiered to a cinema full of industry people.

The trailer premiered it at the Adelaide Film Festival Program Launch Night at the Capri Theatre, playing to a cinema full of industry people.
